welcome

welcome to my website tri[']symphony.com. this is the web presence and showcase of felix caffier, musician, 3d developer and web designer. if you want to learn more about my latest works, concert dates and announcements, click on the buttons on the right side. if you want to read more about me or drop me a line, click on "about".

the word trisymphony is composed of "tris", which is short for triangle, the most essential shape in 3d realtime design, and "symphony", which links to my musical education. "tris" means also "three", and refers to the three areas i am active in, music, 3d development, and web design.

i hope you enjoy your visit. if you want to hire me, ask me to join your project or simply get in touch with me, the contact form on "about" is the way to go.

Netbook Nation - Mar 29 2010

image: acer aspire one 532hGot my first netbook, the Acer Aspire One 532h, feat. the Intel Pinetrail platform, an integrated 3g modem n stuff, light slim, quiet, long battery life - and, sadly, win7 starter which words fail to describe how much it sucks. if you thought vista was bad, i cannot see why you would say 7 were an improvement. 500 megs of ram when nothing is running, slow desktop reaction, approx. one million background services running at once - this system is unadministrable. dummy folders even the admin user has no right to access, a start menu that - unlike in vista - you cannot change back to the classic menu, though there is a classic window decoration style... this is so inconsistent.

then i installed jolicloud. only 163 megs of ram when fully booted (which takes less than 20s), beautiful theme, quick response, and after the repo update, everything works just out of the box. the only drawback is the halved battery time compared to 7.

so, what to do. i guess i will stick with 7 while on the road. battery life is what counts in the end with a netbook.
